At the 10th International Society for Gesture Studies Conference (ISGS10), hosted in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, we are committed to fostering accessibility, inclusivity, and diversity. We aim to create an environment where all attendees, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, religion, or ability, feel welcomed and supported. Below is detailed information to ensure a smooth and accessible experience.
ISGS10 will be held at two venues: Grotiusgebouw and Elinor Ostrom Building, both designed to accommodate mobility needs.
Grotiusgebouw: Fully accessible for wheelchairs and scooters. For assistance, contact +31 24 361 2301.
Elinor Ostrom Building: Wheelchairs are fully supported; however, mobility scooters require assistance. Access via a front-door transmitter is available by calling +31 24 363 3333, and additional help can be requested at +31 24 361 1122.
Both venues feature accessible gender-neutral restrooms with free menstrual products. You can recognize them by the blue signs with the text “gender neutral”. These are located on various floors:
Grotiusgebouw: Ground floor and levels -1, 1, 2, and 3.
Elinor Ostrom Building: Ground floor and level 3.
Nijmegen offers several accessible lodging options.
For example: Guesthouse Vertoef and Sanadome Hotel provide facilities tailored for diverse mobility needs.

Nijmegen’s public transport system adheres to European accessibility standards, ensuring a comfortable experience for all attendees. Buses feature low entrances, foldable ramps (manual or electronic), and designated spaces for securing wheelchairs. Audio announcements are also available to provide information about stops.
Please note that mobility scooters cannot be accommodated on buses unless they are foldable. For additional transportation information, visit the Venue page of our website
For those unable to use public transport, ample accessible parking is available on the Radboud University campus.
ISGS10 will provide International Sign interpretation during the conference.
Presenters are encouraged to share their slides in advance to support interpreters in preparing effectively. It is also recommended that presenters maintain a moderate speaking pace to facilitate accurate interpretation. Additionally, when using slides or videos, please allow interpreters to describe the content before continuing with your presentation.
Captions can also be arranged upon request. For assistance with these services, please contact us in advance.
For attendees needing a quiet or breastfeeding room:
The Elinor Ostrom Building offers rooms that can be pre-booked by contacting Yaren.Arabaci@mpi.nl or by indicating the need on the registration form.
The Max Planck Institute, a two-minute walk from the Grotiusgebouw, also provides these facilities.
Conference catering includes vegan and vegetarian options. Dietary restrictions such as gluten-free meals can be accommodated with prior notice.
Both venues are equipped with accessible evacuation routes, including plans designed for wheelchair users and deaf and hearing impaired attendees.
For additional accessibility inquiries, requests, or feedback, please contact Yaren Arabaci at Yaren.Arabaci@mpi.nl.
We are committed to ensuring ISGS10 is inclusive and enriching for all participants.
